Hi
Just needing some expert advise, we are looking to go on our honeymoon to Maui for the 1st itme.
Looking for something luxurious, we enjoy emersing ourselves in culture, and prefer activities rather than just lazing on the beach all day.
We would like to se the best Maui has to offer
Any recommendations would be welcome
Thanks
1st trip to MAUI we going on honeymoon, where is best to...
The Wailea area has the most expensive hotel/resorts but the area is sort of away from the center of the island. The Ritz Carleton is far away on the other end of the island. The Ka%26#39;anapali area has some nice resorts also, ex. Marriott and Hyatt. Think a guidebook would help you see where you feel is the correct area for you. You might also consider a night in Hana at the Hotel Hana-Maui. It%26#39;s fun to look at all the resorts and decide.

My wife-to-be and I are in the same situation. We%26#39;ve never been to Maui and were looking for something luxurious for our honeymoon, since this is such a special occasion. We are spending 7 nights at the Four Seasons, before going to Kauai for 5 more days. From my reasearch, the 4S is the class of the island. They are doing some renovations but they shouldn%26#39;t affect the stay of other guests. We plan to do activities during part of the days and relax at the resort others.
Good Luck!
Four seasons four seasons cant beat Ferraros!!!!!! Yeah four seasons might be a little more but you will smack yourself if you choose somewhere else!!!!! Do NOT be disappointed!!!
Definitely the Four Seasons. They are booked during our time in Maui for our honeymoon... also, a few nights at the Hotel Hana-Maui wouldn%26#39; t be a bad idea.. that is also primo luxury!
The prices on Maui are really high, but even the luxury places have rooms around $400/night and you could always pray for an upgrade.
Enjoy your trip! I%26#39;ll have a trip report posted in mid July!
We%26#39;ve been to Hawaii at least half a dozen times, starting with our honeymoon (Kauai) and several trips to Maui with kids. Our most recent trip was to the Four Seasons on the Big Island.
We are planning another trip for this summer with our older teenagers, who were bored to death at the Four Seasons (okay, one of them had to read ';War and Peace'; while he was there, so that definitely put a curse on the whole experience...) but given that, I would definitely recommend it for honeymooners!
However, that%26#39;s the Big Island. As I%26#39;ve researched Maui for our upcoming trip, I think the Four Seasons there is my first choice still. We will probably end up at the Westin at Kaanapaali beach, because there%26#39;s more action there for the kids, but that also tells you that luxury-wise and privacy-wise, the Four Seasons area may be a better choice for honeymooners. We%26#39;ve been told that the Kealani (I think that%26#39;s a Fairmont) is also a good choice; again, that%26#39;s in the same area as the Four Seasons.
My husband heard that there%26#39;s a hotel on Kauai that has the best pool in all of Hawaii that we might like better than Maui, but I%26#39;m not seeing that in any of the reviews I%26#39;ve read thus far. (Thanks for any help on that!)
The Ritz Carlton might also be a good honeymoon choice on Maui as it is kind of remote from the other hotels and I think it%26#39;s a pretty nice property.
If I could only go to one place in all of Hawaii, it would still be the Four Seasons on the Big Island. Once we get both these kids in college, that%26#39;s where we%26#39;re heading...
To see the best Maui has to offer, then you should book at least several days at Hotel Hana. Hana is tropical perfection and all the tourists leave in the afternoon. I once stayed 10 days in Hana and it was the best vacation I ever had. There is wonderful hiking at various places and things to see and do. Just stay out of way of the daily stampede of tourists that arrive mid morning and leave mid afternoon.
I%26#39;m all for 4 Seasons and Hotel Hana. You could not go wrong with those choices.
I would also reccomend Hana.
Hana is a great place to relax and enjoy. It is off the normal tourist path except for those who drive thru every day. There are many nice places to explore in the area that they miss.
You will get a better older Hawaiian experience there than you will in Wailea or even Lahaina. Its more like staying in a local town than a tourist area.
There is not as much shopping there or white sandy beaches( they are red and black) but there is more savoire faire (presence) of the islands there.
I am sure later after your vacation is over if you like more peace, solitude and romance Hana will have been the highlight of your vacation. Do not skip it you will regret it.
Congrats on your wedding.
Aloha gmc
Also to warrenandkate:
You might want to rethink your Hana to Haleeakala trip. It will take you from 3.5-4.5 hours or more to reach the summit from Hana. it not a whole lot of miles it is windy slow roads that do it.
From your intinerary you all seem very energetic but perhaps you could schedule your bike trip earlier or later in your trip.
Good luck, gmc
To wifesoon - for luxury and pampering go with the 4Seasons in Wailea and a few days at the Hotel Hana Maui in Hana. You won%26#39;t regret it!
To warrenandkate - you might want to rethink some things on your itenerary . . .
';Night
• Mama’s Fish House – Paia, Kahului
• Go to Kahului Beach';
I wouldn%26#39;t recommend coming back into Kahului after dinner at Mama%26#39;s to go to the beach. The beaches in Kahului are . . . for lack of a better description, NOT visitor friendly. Homeless, drug dealers, local mokes, etc. you get the idea. Maybe you didn%26#39;t mean ';Kahului Beach'; but thought I%26#39;d better say something just in cas you did!
';Night
• Romantic Dinner for Two at the Old Lahaina Luau in Lahaina at 6:00pm';
While the OLL is the best on island, I wouldn%26#39;t classify it as romantic. There%26#39;s about 600 other people there with you. You%26#39;re eating at a table with strangers and it is buffet. That%26#39;s all well and good, just that my idea of romantic is a little something different. Didn%26#39;t want you to go with the wrong idea cause the OLL is well worth it but not (IMHO) romantic.
';Day 3 – Tuesday 22nd August
Morning
• Sunrise and drive to Iao Valley State ';
Iao Valley doesn%26#39;t need to be seen at sunrise. It%26#39;s Haleakala that people like go for sunrise.
';Day 6 – Friday 25th August
Morning -
• Sunrise at Haleakala Crater very early get there for 5:00am.
• Bike down Mt. Haleakala (26 miles)';
GMC is right. You might want to rethink doing a downhill Haleakala bike ride from Hana and then returning to Hana!
Have fun, fun, fun! Aloha
Hi,
Just wanted to add my 2 cents to this request....I always stay in west Maui, but maybe the next time I will change my usual accomodations and opt for the Four Seasons at Wailea. Not that I am a big Oprah fan, but she chose this resort this month to take her entire staff and family for a vacation. The key in this selection...she actually owns a home in east Maui and chose this resort over all of the places. Lot%26#39;s of great reviews about the area on TA so take the time to check it out. Good luck and have a wonderful time!!!!!
