Waikoloa Beach Marriott -renovations update

Does anyone have any recent updates about the renovations going on? We are going to be there the end of September and got a price of $155 night vs $209 night at the Hilton next door so decided to stay at the Mariott for the price difference. Is it worth the savings to stay at the Mariott despite the renovations? Anyone know how far along they are? Is the pool working?

Waikoloa Beach Marriott -renovations update

Here%26#39;s what the Marriott site says:

Significant Construction In Progress! Current renovations include a temporary Hotel Entrance, South Tower Guest Rooms, Lobby and Restaurant renovations. Also includes the construction of our New Grand Ballroom and New Serenity Pool. Ongoing construction anticipated through December 30th 2006. Please be aware, construction schedule subject to change.

The location on %26#39;Anaeho%26#39;omalu Bay is really great. We liked it much better than the Hilton next door. I think you will enjoy your stay despite the construction.

Waikoloa Beach Marriott -renovations update

We had reservations for the Marriott in late October so I had asked this same question a month or so ago and was advised by many posters to change my plans. Our travel agent was able to get us accommodations at the Mauna Kea Beach Resort for a few dollars more so we went for it. I still plan on checking it out while we%26#39;re there cuz it really does look like a nice hotel.

I was in WBR three weeks ago, the whole Marriott area looked like a war zone. I would not stay there.

I called the hotel and was notified that while the hotel is undergoing the brunt of the construciton now, by late December all restaurants will be open and only the entrance and the ballrooms should be under construction.

She also indicated that the fauna, beach areas and ponds would not be affected. I did not get specific about the pool.

I wonder how many more ';final'; dates will they be giving to the unsuspecting public. December? Did they say what year?

I would switch to the Hilton next door for that price. We got back from the Hilton a week ago %26amp; after seeing the Marriot, here is my husband%26#39;s quote, ';I%26#39;m glad I%26#39;m not staying there!.';

Major construction %26amp; I heard guests at the Marriot complaining about the noise when we were at Hapuna Beach.

$209 for the Hilton is a great price. I paid double that %26amp; would have enjoyed the Hilton more at the $209 price! Just don%26#39;t stay in the Lagoon Tower if you don%26#39;t want to be woken up at 5:00 a.m. by hundreds of mynah birds. The rest of my family never heard them, but I was up every morning. The Lagoon Tower is next to the Kona Pool which is great so that is another consideration.

I agree with TT....... and '; war zone %26#39; is very accurate. Knowiiing how work actualy progresses here I would give it to April next year as a good guess,

that aside, even when the hotel was in one piece it was the worst Marriott I have stayed at in 30 years....... and I love marriott hotels.. with one exception...... Waikoloa beach. no atmosphere and grounds..... for a saviing of 50 bucks !!!! if it was 100 maybe...

Think this one through ...........

We were over that way a few weeks ago and I couldn%26#39;t even tell it was a hotel. It looked like a huge construction site with dirt and things everywhere.

I called management and got upgraded to an overfront room for the nightly price of $155 for Waikoloa Beach Mariott.

I was booked at a gardenview room.....may just take my chances and stay..it%26#39;s only for 3 nights and I don%26#39;t plan on being in the room much other than to sleep...at least the beds are new!

I%26#39;ll post a review when I get back...we%26#39;ll be there 9/26 to 9/29

I was there in June and the situation was that almost all the resort restaurants were closed; however the Kings shops is less than a quarter mile walk from the hotel. There are a few ok (not great) restaurants there. Marriott had a daily resort fee of $15, which seems strange for them to impose, given how construction can test the good will of many guests. You probably can talk your way out of this fee if you%26#39;re patient in trying to find a manager. The hotel staff was much friendlier than the Hilton (where I%26#39;ve stayed a few times before with Priceline reservations).

The construction itself was from 9:00 to 5:00 Mon thru Fri, though workers generally stopped at 4:00 (I guess to clean up and put away tools). Since these are the hours that I was generally away from the hotel, I didn%26#39;t mind. The rooms were recently remodeled, so everything was near new. Rooms have complimentary refrigerators, and there are community computers on the first floor, which guests may use for free. Luao grounds are open, so you can easily enjoy the music and see the show standing behind the guests tables. Walking out to the beach, sunset views are significantly better than what can be seen from the Hilton.

My advice is that if the outside the room amenities of the resort are important, and you%26#39;ll be on the hotel grounds for a significant time, you may want to move elsewhere. When I last looked around a week ago, the Hilton website showed a $189/night rate for a room that will be assigned when you arrive (Also I%26#39;ve seen postings that $136-$150/night bid may get you a basic room from Priceline).

Though this won%26#39;t apply to you because of your upgraded room, for others let me remark that there were 3-4 cats roaming the grounds, and they had easy access to ground floor lanais.
