Desperately Seeking Advice for Family Trip

We have used our frequent flier miles to book a trip to Hawaii for March 2007. We only have five full days. We fly into Honolulu on a Sunday, leave the following Saturday. We have two boys, ages 12 and 10 who are good travelers. We would prefer a destination that is on the quiet side. We have no interest in hula dances or luaus. We need to hike every day. We do like good food. Any advice out there? Thank you!!!

Sounds to me that Kauai or Big Island might be more suited for your family. Big Island has Volcano National Park where there are many interesting hikes, I could have easily spend 3 out of the 5 full days there.

However, if you are going to stay on Oahu, you might want to consider staying at North Shore. (Pretty much as far from Waikiki as you can get.) There is the Turtle Bay Resort, but there are also B%26amp;B%26#39;s. I have an Oahu hiking book which listed plenty of hikes, at various parts of the island. Here are a few I really enjoyed the Makapuu Lighthouse hike (very short hike, but good view of the windward side plus in March you will likely see whales off the coast from the lookout.) Keanu Point was pretty cool too with the Layson albatrose natural reserve. Many people (tourists) hike up Diamond Head with view of Waikiki, but I stopped doing that since there%26#39;s just way too many people. I prefer hikes that are less crowded.

Lots to do on Oahu. Includes hiking sites. Some of the sites have restaurant guides including www.alternative-hawaii.com %26amp; www.driveguidemagazines.com

Definately go to Oahu the island has it all plus the best bus system in the Hawaiian Islands. You can hike up to the top of Diamond Head. Also Lyon Arboretum is full of trails through the rainforest and Manoa Falls are a good hike. Lots of places to stay and great places to eat in Honolulu and Waikiki. I would definately like to visit the other islands someday, but right now I have no desire. Everything I%26#39;m looking for is on Oahu and I don%26#39;t need to rent a car. Aloha
