My husband has a mobility problem. Can he use his California placard in Maui? We are staying in Wailea. Is parking at the restaurants difficult?
Handicap placard
California placards aren%26#39;t valid in Hawaii, sorry.
Interesting question as to what visitors are supposed to do. There%26#39;s probably a way to get a temporary and it%26#39;s probably a pain for very short term.
You don%26#39;t describe the exact problem, but would dropping him off in front while you go park the car be a solution?
sorry I don%26#39;t know specifics about restaurants in Wailea.
Handicap placard
Sorry KamainaK, but handicap parking permits from other states ARE valid. If you need to confirm this, check the Maui County DMV website.
Check this website. It says permits from other states are honored.

It has links to get more info.
Hope this helps.

You are correct.

';Is the parking at restaurants difficult?';
It depends where you%26#39;re going. The many ';popular'; restaurants in Wailea are in the hotels, so that means trekking from the hotel parking lot/garage to the restaurant, unless you drop him off in the front of the hotel. If you%26#39;re going to Lahaina to one of the many restaurants there, it%26#39;s definitely going to involve some walking because there%26#39;s pretty much no street parking there. So you would have to park at one of the public lots and trek over to the restaurant of your choice, unless again, you drop him off in front of the restaurant. If you%26#39;re going to one of the many places in Kihei, then you shouldn%26#39;t have a problem with parking because it%26#39;s a lot less crowded there and there%26#39;s parking everywhere.
I used my Washington State Placard when I was in Maui! Never a problem!
