WHEN is a good or bad time to go

I appreciate recommendations made on another thread about WHERE to go. Thank you.

Now I want to know WHEN we should go and when we shouldn%26#39;t. Two concerns: weather and big crowds. We want to avoid bad weather (if possible) and holiday-like crowds.

Is there a low / discount season?:%26gt;)

WHEN is a good or bad time to go

I read on another thread that Feb. and August have heavy tourist traffic due to Presidents%26#39; Day and school holidays in August. Other times that are more prone to storms, etc.????

WHEN is a good or bad time to go

We went August 12th for 2 weeks. Not too bad with crowds as lots of schools are in already. Even Hawaii schools started while we were there.

Weather was picture perfect every day.

Which island?

We always prefer to inter-island travel in the Spring. It%26#39;s cooler, the weather is nice, and most plants are blooming. It%26#39;s a good time to visit the islands.

But certain events can always cause crowds/traffic. Holidays, festivals, etc. The Big Island especially has large events in April and October; Hilo and Kona side respectfully.

Compared to much of the world, Hawaii%26#39;s weather is quite consistent year round. Winter and spring are cooler and rainier at the north ends of each island. I%26#39;d avoid the north parts of Kauai and Oahu then, but it is not as much of a problem on Maui and Big Island. In summer, the north parts of Kauai and Oahu are more pleasant than the south.

If you want typically tropical surroundings, Kauai, Oahu and Maui will suit you -- and the ';wet side'; of Big Island. The ';dry side'; of Big Island is naturally mostly bare lava -- a moonscape -- year round.

You can find quiet places on all the islands all year, but there are more visitors at times when mainland schools are on vacation and when mainlanders are escaping freezing temperatures at home. May and November are good travel times, and are in ';Value Season';, at least in ';my'; part of South Maui.
