need some advice

Hi --

I went to Hawaii a couple of times about 20 yrs ago. I%26#39;m sure much has changed since then, but I really enjoyed the Ala Moana beach area. Is it a good area to stay or would a local recommend someplace else? Also, can someone recommend a cheap hotel with a fridge within a block of a nice beach, preferably not Waikiki? I guess I need a little primer on where%26#39;s the best place to stay in Honolulu. Last time I went my brother-in-law was stationed at Ewa Beach and I stayed with family. We%26#39;re staying a couple of days then hopping over to the big island. I%26#39;m hoping to find any deals I can. We%26#39;re flying in May 10 and going home May 21. Thanks for any and all advice.

Ala Moana Beach Park is still nice. I actually prefers it to Waikiki Beaches since it is a lot less crowded especially on weekdays. On weekends it is full of locals with their tents for family get togethers and wonderful smell of BBQ%26#39;s. Also like the fact that good and reasonably priced lunches (with many varieties to choose from) can be found across the Boulevard at Ala Moana Shopping Center Foodcourt. The plentiful free parking does not hurt either.

Can%26#39;t help you with hotels close to there though since I have not stayed in them. But off top of my head there%26#39;s the Ala Moana Hotel, and the Hawaii Prince Resort and Illikai is not far away. (I think the Illikai has some rooms with full kitchens.) You might want to check out some guide books for hotel recommendations. Example: the ';Oahu Revealed'; has a map with hotels and description of the amenities.

We are staying at the Holiday Inn on Ala Moana from 20th October until 4th November we stayed there 10 years ago and it was nice then. The rooms do have fridges we paid a little over $100 per night for our forthcoming stay. I will post a review when I return. We picked the Holiday Inn because of price but also it gets favourable reviews on this site.
