8pm flight: What time should I return my rental car?

My girlfriend and I are planning to take a day trip to Maui from Oahu and I was wondering when would be a safe time to return a rental car at or near the airport for an 8PM flight back to Oahu?

And how early should we plan to get to the airport? Is it the normal 1 1/2 - 2hrs before the flight departs(check-in, security, etc...)?

And just one more question... How long should I expect it to take from landing in Maui, until we%26#39;re in the rental car and on the road?

at 8pm crowds will be minimal so 1 hour will be plenty, worse time of day is the mid morning when it is a mess. With no luggage from plane to car maybe 1/2 hour, depending on the line at the car place.
