Which Islands with only 9 or 10 nights?

Hello everyone,

First of all sorry if you get asked this all the time! My boyfriend and I are planning our honeymoon for the end of May next year. We hope to stay in Las Vegas for 4 nights, followed by 9 or 10 nights in Hawaii (depending on if we decide to stay in LA a night on the way home).

Is it reasonable to fit a visit to two islands in this time? If it is, which would you suggest? It will be our first trip to Hawaii, we are both 25 and enjoying sight seeing, eating out, scuba diving and generally seeing new places. I%26#39;m not sure what the weather will be like that time of year, and how it affects the different islands.

I%26#39;m thinking that we wold really enjoy Oahu, plus maybe the big Island as well?

Thank you for your help!

9-10 nights you can do 2 islands. We did 3 islands in 15 nights, 5 nights each Maui, Oahu, and the Big Island.

Since its your first trip I would do Maui and Oahu, or if you are very adventurous and want to see the volcano%26#39;s Maui and the Big Island.

I%26#39;m going to take the liberty of rewriting your plans. Stay in Vegas for two or three nights. Then on to Maui for six nights. Then Big Island for seven nights. Then directly home.

You will be tired when you hit Vegas. You will be tired *of* Vegas after a night or two.

If you can fly direct to Maui from Vegas, so much the better. Six nights there is enough to see this tropical island and enjoy its beaches. I like the South Maui area best, but West Maui has its fans. It%26#39;s easier to tour the island from a South Maui base.

You loose a good part of one day hopping between islands. (Pack up, check out, return car, clear airport security, fly, wait for luggage, get rental car, check in at new lodgings.) Big Island is BIG and it will require more time to see its sights. It is unique, with its many micro-climates and live volcano. It is half tropical and half a lava moonscape. The Waikoloa area (Kohala) has the nicest lodgings. I%26#39;m not thrilled with anything in Hilo or Kona -- fun to visit, but not stay there. There are some OK places in Volcano.

If you have to fly Vegas to Honolulu, or must depart from Honolulu, you could stay on Oahu for some of your visit instead of going to Maui or Big Island. Some people also stay on Oahu for several days and spend the rest of their time on Maui, Kauai or Big Island.

Staying overnight in LA only prolongs the trip home. You%26#39;ll have little time to do or see anything because you will have to check into and out of lodgings, clear airport security and wait for your flight. If you want to do a one-stop, to get off the plane and stretch your legs without leaving a secure area, that would make more sense.

May is a great time to visit Hawaii! And Hawaii is a great place to start your married life!

Thank you for your reply.

I don%26#39;t know when or if (!) we will be able to go back to the Hawaiian Islands, as it is so far from us, so want to make to most of this trip.

Would you recommend seeing the volcanoes? I would love to see them, but what is the rest of the big island like?

Chisue, I hadn%26#39;t read your post before posting myself.

Thanks for all that info! Do you really think 2 or 3 nights will be enough in Vegas? I have to admit that I love all the glitz/tackiness/Elvisness (if thats a word!) of the place and think I%26#39;d love it.

But then again it eats into Hawaii time! Is there any reason you don%26#39;t list Oahu as a first choice? We would like to visit there to see Pearl Harbour and I wouldn%26#39;t mind seeing some of the settings for Lost (that would be a bonus I wouldn%26#39;t go there just for that).

Thinking about it, I think you are right about staying over in LA. The only reason I though of that was that one travel agent told me you could fly direct to Hawaii from Vegas - is that not true?

I%26#39;m so excited about our trip! Thak you for your help.

Sorry, meant to say I was told you couldn%26#39;t fly from Vegas to Hawaii, we%26#39;d have to go via LA.

Trying to type too fast!
