Wailua Bay View, Need help finding best room

I have searched the internet abroad and read many, many of your posts. From my best judgement the Wailua Bay Condo%26#39;s are the best deal out there for Kauai. They look pretty spacious, but would be nice to hear from someone who has stayed.

Their website lists Condo #%26#39;s: 103, 201, 202, 203, 301, 302, %26amp; 303 as their ';Superior Units';. These go for $750/week. The rest are called Premium Units and gor for $840/week. Still can%26#39;t figure out why they go for more?

I read a comment from a TA Participant that said, make sure you get the right one, and that some where kept up better than others. He didn%26#39;t say which were the best. I would be very appreciative if anyone out there familiar with this property could recommend one of the $750 units listed above, or let me know if its worth the extra $100 for one of the other units.

Also any comments on this property in general would be nice to see. Everything I have seen so far has been very positive.

Thank You, WH

Aloha WH,

I own a condo at Wailua Bay View. I’m not here to plug my unit, but I can help you understand why there is a price difference, since all the units have similar floor plans and views.

The building sits at an angle off Kuhio Hwy, so you can hear the traffic in the units that are closer to the road. Those would be the units ending in 01, 02 and 03. Some of those units have double paned window and shutters to help muffle the noise that might come through the bedroom windows. If you would rather have $90 extra bucks to spend on restaurants and activities, then just turn up the Hawaiian music and enjoy the savings.

The condos toward the middle and far end of the building don’t get as much traffic noise, but do get more ocean roar. That’s basically the difference between the prices. Since all the units are individually owned, they are each decorated differently.

You can probably pick the style and amenities that suit you best right off the photos and descriptions at www.wailuabay.com.

Wailua Bay View is a friendly little place – helpful staff – great location.

Great answer Hula; golly I%26#39;ve seen some non-sensical reponses to this question.

If you want, email me: WeTravelHappy@aol.com and I%26#39;ll plug your unit (+ perhaps rent from you in Feb. 2007).

kama

Go ahead and let me know which one is yours, based on the nice response I might book it.

I would much rather deal with the Ocean Pounding than the Cars.

Besides that, and air conditioner that works %26amp; boogie board%26#39;s, I%26#39;m Set!

A lot of people don%26#39;t mind the traffic they might hear on the ';road'; side of the building. In fact, some say they never even notice it. A number of the condo%26#39;s have been renovated recently as you can see by the web site photos, and a few have A/C in the living room AND the bedroom.

Guess it all comes down to what%26#39;s important to you. The extra 90 bucks won%26#39;t go far on Kauai, but could get you a couple dinners out.

Jennifer at greathawaiivacations.com is amazing... she gets the best rates and is really knowledgable. Call her.

Jennifer at greathawaiivacations.com may be amazing, but she doesn%26#39;t represent Wailua Bayview!

Hey Kwils - apparently they do handle Wailua Bay View rentals, at just over the regular rate. I just looked at their website and was surprised to find the photo they use to represent WBV is a picture I took for my personal website! I don%26#39;t have a huge problem with that - I was just surprised they would take a photo off my website rather than one of the rental office sites.

Anyway WH, my unit is 210. Kwils%26#39; unit is 201. We have other owners/neighbors who frequent this forum too, but they don%26#39;t ever post. There are several units I would recommend, but you can probably choose for yourself from the info the rental agent supplies on the available units for your dates.

I think Kwils and I both bend over backward not to plug WBV over other properties, nor plug our own units over others. We don%26#39;t want to make our neighbors mad, our rental agent mad, or TA mad. ;) But when someone posts a question about WBV, it%26#39;s hard to keep quiet!

If you decide to stay at Wailua Bay View, it usually boils down to what%26#39;s available when you want to go and which units have the amenities you want. If you have a preference between king or queen beds, smoking or non-smoking, etc. The rental office is very helpful and can let you know which units are available that meet your criteria.

My unit isn%26#39;t the nicest and it isn%26#39;t the worse. But it suits me fine. Many units have been upgraded recently. It%26#39;s impossible to suggest one over another. Good luck!

Kama - no need to plug any particular units here though. Many of our neighbors read the forum who might justifiably think that a bit unfair. Do you want my neighbors to get mad at me and throw my slippers in the pool? Of course they wouldn%26#39;t do that - they%26#39;re all so nice - but I hope you see my point. Thanks anyway!

Hi again WolverHorns,

Have been to Kauai numerous times (but it has been much too long since the last visit). Have stayed in Condos from Waimea to Poipu to Wailua and on the North Shore. The most convenient is centrally located Wailua. We%26#39;ve rented a ';Superior unit'; as well as four ';Premiums';. During the course of our vacations, we have had occasion to socially ';inspect'; several of the other condo%26#39;s.

Fortunately, at no time were we less than thrilled with our accomodations. However, as is true with all of Hawaii, the caliber of your Landlord is of utmost importance. I%26#39;ve become acquainted with both Kwils and Hula through TA and have looked at both of their units on the web; am 99% certain you will be happy at either. Whatever you decide, about the only qualifier I would mention is that you may find units above ground floor to offer better views as well as enhanced privacy and security.

Wailua Bayview is situated up on a moderate bluff, which is nice (we%26#39;ve been ankle deep in water once elsewhere), the beach is beautiful and usually great for swimming/boogie-boarding. The sunrises are often breath-taking and breakfast on your Lanai will be a perfect start to your day.

Hi Wolverhorns,

I do not own a condo there (wish i did though) but I did just stay there for 10 days two weeks ago. I can say that I was very satisfied. I stayed in a premium unit #104. Our unit came with everything we needed for our days out, beach chairs, towels, fins, boogie boards, coolers, and my wife and I left behind a snorkel set as our little contribution. It was worth the extra money for me, just for the king bed. The noise is not bad. I heard more of the ocean than anyting, this can be a little loud, but it was part of the charm for me, i went to an island and i wanted to hear and see the ocean from my lanai and this place offers both at the best price. The location on the island is perfect. There was easy access to every part of kauai. This was the best feature. No matter where my new wife and I wanted to go (we were on our honeymoon) it was within 30 minutes at most. As a non-partial consumer I would deffinetly recommend staying there. We have already recommeded wailua bayview to friends of ours that are planning a trip for november. Good luck and have a fun trip.

Hula,

I was also surprised to see the photos on the ';greathawaiianvacations'; web site. Are they using copyrighted photos without the owners permission? (including two of our unit....) Perhaps a quick little e-mail will let them know that some things on the internet don%26#39;t go unnoticed.

As far as bookings, we know that HVR LLC handles 33 units, Prosser has 3, and KVR has 2. What units do these guys represent? Or do they have some kind of arrangement with the above mentioned?
