Visiting Maui in November. Is it best to make reservations for a luau ahead of time, or am I going to find all kinds of discount coupons around when I arrive? Thanks.
Maui luau
vkqueen,
You%26#39;re not going find very many discounts depending on the luau you choose. For example the Old Lahaina Luau does not offer any discounts and typically books far in advance. If they are the Luau you were thinking of attending I would book now. They have a website that you can search the dates of your trip and also purchase tix.
Maui luau
We went to The Old Lahania Luau this August. I booked far in advance and we had great seats. This luau is the best one. We didnt find many discount coupons but did have one by the Marriott, didnt seem to go to those places. I also recommend the show about Hawaiana culture, dont remember the name, Also Warren and Anabel is fun. Can go to Old Lahania tixs . Enjoy your trip.
Depending on what luau you are interested in, I used Activity World to reserve our seats at the Royal Lahaina luau. They had a special along with family night allowing extra discounts (don%26#39;t confuse this with the Old Lahaina luau--they really do not offer specials or coupons). The Feast at Lele was one we booked directly thru their website approx 3 months ahead--we had a table for 2 in the front row--it was great! (also, no specials for this luau either!)
If you have a lot of kids or more picky eaters and you want a show with the fire dancers, Royal Lahaina is a good one and I have heard other say the Hyatt Drums of the Pacific is another. Have a great time!
Drums of the Pacific at the Hyatt has the best fire knife dancer on Maui.
Royal Lahaina Luau is probably the best value as there are lots of coupons. It is also the most kid friendly. If you are taking kids, this is the one for you. If you are not taking kids, then choose a different luau.
Indy and Dusty- do you know which way is best to book Royal Lahaina Luau?
I see that Activity savers offers RLL at around $49 for adults and kids are free, than I see that Activity World offers it for $59 and kids are free. If I book thru Activity savers are they going to try and sell me a timeshare? I heard this is often done when things are offered at much lower rates.
I called Activity Savers and asked if they offered premium seating and he said they do not but it is 1st row and not comfortable as you will be looking up the whole time. He said 2nd row is better and to just arrive a half an hour before the show to get 2nd row. Is he telling me the truth?
I don%26#39;t want to wait in long lines esp. with 3 kids. Indy- how soon did you arrive before the show? did you feel RLL was organized? I%26#39;m picking RLL because it has the kid buffet as my kids can be picky eaters and it has the fire dancers. Mahalo!
This link says ';No Timeshares';

He is probably accurate about the second row
I always hate to get the first row behind an aisle at any event because of people walking back %26amp; forth.
RL entrance to the luau is not as smooth as I felt the more expensive luaus were but even with the Feast at Lele, we had to wait in a line prior to entering. We arrived approximately 30 mins early and did wait in line for RL, but I felt it moved fairly quickly. Our seats were off to the side, but we were able to see everything fine.
I agree with Dusty, if you did not have children with you, I would pick a different one, but RL is really a kid friendly set up with a good variety of foods that appeal to all tastes. The fire dancers were fun to watch at RL--our boys 11, 12 really enjoyed it! It sounds like you are getting a good deal on the tickets. As I mentioned, I went thru activityworld.com and got a comparable deal. Have fun!
Thanks Indy and Dusty, you helped clarify and we will do RLL. I originally wanted to do OLL or the Sheraton Luau but I just couldn%26#39;t see myself paying $40-60 a kid when they would probably only eat a little chicken and a lot of dessert! :) We hope to do the OLL breakfast for the educational aspects but now debating between it or a day trip to Lanai. What do you think, OLL or Lanai? mahalo!
Personally, one luau for my family would be enough :) I think another new experience like you day trip to Lanai sounds great! I understand the snorkeling and beaches there are wonderful!
Based on what I have read over the many months leading up to our trip (10 days and counting) we decided to go with the Old Lahaina Luau. Everyone seemed to recommend this over all the other Luau%26#39;s. But if you decide to go to it, make sure you do book it in advance. We booked ours in August so it was pretty much 2 months prior to the date.
Enjoy!
