Maui Bike ride?

My fiance and i will be having our honeymoon here in october!! I was curious to see if anyone had a great bike company that they would want to recommend me to. I%26#39;m afraid of feeling rushed and not able to really enjoy the moment. I really want the sunrise based on all the good reviews. :)

Maui Bike ride?

Mauicouple,

Congratulations!! We have never done the nike trips down from Haleakala. I would search this forum for some opinions as this topic is discussed pretty frequently.

There is a site(mauiinfosource.com) that should help you decide or the Maui revealed book. We will see you there in October!!!

Maui Bike ride?

Thank You so very much for the information! Our wedding date is Oct. 7 and we will be staying in maui for a wk. :) Very excited.

Mauicouple,

I assume you are but make sure to rent a car as there are too many beautiful sites not to miss. We also go to a different beach each day. If you need any suggestions this is the site to ask.

You really can%26#39;t go wrong in whatever you deicide to do but some of the excursions should be booked immediately if they are on your ';must do'; list(like Old Lahaina Luau or Warren %26amp; Annabelle) as they fill very quickly.

My husband and I just yesterday did the Haleakala sunrise trip with the Haleakala Bike company (bikemaui.com). Very different experience from most of the other companies. This company lets you have the bike until 4pm if you want to, and you go down the mountain at you own speed, stopping whereever you want to eat, look at views, etc. The difference is that you bike from just outside the base of the park. With all the others, you bike down from the summit, but you do so in large groups sandwichd between a guide and a trailer toting truck, riding at their speed, stopping only when they want to, and that doesn%26#39;t seem to be often. They ride cruisers rather than mountain bikes, and look a bit like oompa-loompas in their matching wind breaker suits. My husband and I almost stood by the side of the road singing to them as they zipped by, but managed to contain ourselves. Haleakala Bike also does the sunrise bit from a different area than the others, not right at the very tippy tip of the summit, although we did drive up there to see where everyone else was . We had it all to ourselves (14 of us compared with hundreds) and had the most spectacular view of the crater and an amazing sunrise! They give excellent support if you get lost coming down, and advice on places to go, if you don%26#39;t just want to bike down the mountain as fast as possible. We had a winery and other local businesses recommended, stopped off at a protea farm, had our own breakfast at the Kula lodge, and did things at our own speed. We got lost coming back but stopped at some charming galleries in Makawoa (sp?) and had a blast. The map was good enough that we didn%26#39;t need to call for help though. Highly recommended company! www.bikemaui.com

Sue me for posting from my vacation, but I was researching where to rent a bicycle for use at beach level ;) .

We used the Aloha Bike Tour Company. Again, different from all the rest. The day starts at 7 a.m. with a continental breakfast at one of the state parks. From there you get into Mark%26#39;s van and head up the hill. By the time you get to your starting destination, all the other sunrise tours have already gone by and the day is getting warmer. Mark fits you to your bike and sends you off in your own group (you and your new bride) to ride down the hill at your own pace. At the bottom you meet up with his wife Karen for a picnic lunch at the winery. All in all, it was one of the best activities we did on Maui. We did the sunrise a different day and stopped at Kula Lodge for breakfast. We didn%26#39;t watch the sunrise from the summitt but from mile marker 17 (I think this is right number) that is mentioned in Maui Revealed. We were the only 2 there in this little shelter on the side of the mountain. It was great not having to fight the crowds. Have fun.
