My wife and I had a very enjoyable time on our honeymoon in Hawaii. We spent 5 nights at the Sheraton on Maui and 5 nights at the Hapuna Beach Prince on the Big Island. I have a bunch of pictures, along with narration (e.g. what we did, thoughts, etc) on my website at:
at www.tornadocentral.com/events/honeymoon.php
Here are some semi-random thoughts:
* Kim and I preferred the Big Island. There%26#39;s a lot of driving to do on the Big Island, but I enjoyed the diversity and VNP on the Big Island. Again, I know some of my disliking of Maui had nothing to do with anything but bad luck (it was hot and dry the entire time), but there%26#39;s just something about the Big Island...
* I preferred the Hapuna Beach Prince; Kim preferred the Sheraton Maui. I thought the decor was nicer and a little more trendy at the Hapuna, but there was some black mold in the shower and rest of the bathroom. It was also unfortunate to be stuck with a queen-size bed. The Sheraton was nice, and I like the ambiance and pool better there. There was a lot of walking to get from the parking lot to our room, however, and I was strongly preferred Hapuna Beach to Ka%26#39;anapali Beach. There was only a very small area of Ka%26#39;anapali Beach on which we could lay if we wanted to stay dry.
* We had some very good food on our trip. I thoroughly enjoyed David Paul%26#39;s and Pahu i%26#39;a, and the Kona Brewing Company, Cafe Pesto, and Kona Inn Cafe were good. I have mixed reviews about Pescatore and Roy%26#39;s, unfortunately. Oh yeah, BJ%26#39;s Pizza in Lahaina is good as well.
* I think we both consider the ';Road to Hana'; trip as a ';been there, done that'; type of thing. I wasn%26#39;t sure what to expect, but I%26#39;m not sure it%26#39;s something we%26#39;ll do again. The back side of Haleakala was very cool, in my opinion.
* The trip to Lanai also is considered as a ';been there, done that'; excursion.
* The horseback riding with Na%26#39;alapa Stables into Waipi%26#39;o Valley was an excellent way to finish the trip!
I ended up spending quite a bit more money than I anticipated -- but hey, it%26#39;s a honeymoon! As far as safety is concerned, we never saw any hint of shadiness or experienced anything that made either of us uncomfortable. Just use common sense...
I%26#39;ve heard quite a bit about aggressive drivers in Hawaii, but I have nothing but accolades for most of the drivers I encountered. In fact, the drivers I saw were some of the most courteous I have ever seen. Sure, there were a few speed-demons, but you%26#39;ll find that with any population. For the most part, folks were very friendly behind the wheel. I wish I could bring back some of that to my own city... I hate people who block parking lot entrances when waiting for stop lights or stop signs, which I saw very little of in HI, but which I see very often here in OK. Ugh.
Well, I think that%26#39;s all I have for now... Feel free to check out the pictures.

Sorry about that! I have fixed the problem! Feel free to try again...
FWIW, I did save a bunch of money using Priceline. I got the Sheraton and Hapuna Beach Prince for ~$200/nt (one of those was $180/nt IIRC). There%26#39;s a little bit of ';mystery'; when using Priceline, but it saved me quite a bit of money.
Great trip report %26amp; pics!
I could not help myself and had to look at your pet pics. How cute are they? Congratulations on your marriage...have a long, healthy, happy one!!
