We are coming to Kauai from Nov 9th to the 19th and I just don%26#39;t know where to stay. We are a group of 8 my family one teen, and 3 young kids and my parents. I thought about staying on the north side in Kilauea but I am worried about the weather. We want somewhere not so populated I have resorts and will be renting a house. We want somewhere the kids can safely swim and I don%26#39;t think that that is on the north shore. But places like Poipu lokk like they are very populated. Please can someone help me?
Kauai North or south
i%26#39;ve been in november and the weather wasn%26#39;t an issue...it was just as nice on the north shore as on the south...although it%26#39;s typically much drier on the south shore that time of year.
the issue for me that time of year was the most of the north shore beaches were not swimmable b/c of rough surf...which is typical on the north shore that time of year.
imo, poipu is definately more ';resort-ish'; and the north shore is more remote feeling. but non of kauai, imo, is very populated.
Kauai North or south
I%26#39;d vote for north, but this topic may help you decide, even though it%26#39;s on Kapa%26#39;a vs the South.

Hi Oneclue -- Given what you have said, I would opt for Anini Beach if you can still find a place there. The entire beach (and it is a long one) has only only homes and some park area -- no hotels, no condos and the road is a dead end, so very quiet. There are a number of lovely rental homes there that could easily accomodate your family. Anini is entirely surrounded by an outer reef, so even if the northshore surf is rough, it is very gentle at Anini and fine for young kids. Check out Serenity Rentals on the web -- they have a number of Anini properties.
We have stayed there many times, generally during winter, and have never had rain problems other than some passing showers. It is one of the few beaches I know that you can stay on and yet walk alone in the early morning (or at least almost alone.
Good Luck.
Kimo
Anini is one of my all-time favorite beaches. I%26#39;ve never known it to be anything even close to crowded.
don%26#39;t get me wrong, all things being equal i%26#39;d take the north shore over the south shore every day of the week.
the only thing i%26#39;m saying you should consider is the fact that the north shore beaches are typically not safe for swimming in the winter months.
