Menehune Shores

Has anyone stayed here? I tried looking on TA%26#39;s hotel/condo reviews and there are not very many reviews for the complex.

We reserved a 3bd condo here for our trip. But, while I have seen a ton of other places mentioned in Kihei, I have not seen anyone mention this place.

Any locals or seasoned travelers to Maui have any heads up advice.

Menehune Shores

Lisa,

We had a 6th story penthouse booked at Menehune Shores but ended up staying just down the beach at the Luana Kai when we realized our wives both have mild vertigo. Because we were going to stay there, we did walk up the beach and viewed a 1 br and 2 br, and I can say we would not have been disapointed to stay there. The 1 br was on the ground floor and while was a bit small, was very clean and well appointed. The 2 br was on the 3rd floor and was smaller than our 2 br at the Luana Kai, but very clean and well appointed. The lanai seemed very small but that was the only thing I didn%26#39;t like.

BTW, there is a nice little restaurant on the ground floor. Nothing fancy but good food and great views. Had breakfast there 2 days.

I%26#39;m sure by now you realize that for the most part, you won%26#39;t walk out from any resort in the north Kihei area and snorkel, but they do clean the beaches everyday and we waded and swam with no problems at all. We will stay in north Kihei, probably at the Luana Kai, on our trip we are planning for 2008.

Menehune Shores

We have not stayed there but friends of ours stayed there last year at the same time as we were in Maui and we visited them at their condo several times. The one they stayed in was updated and very clean. They book it directly from the owner and and were very pleased with the whole complexed. They will be going back again this year.

P.S. They view from the roof top BBQ area was great.

Menehune Shores has a better chance of getting full on ocean views. It%26#39;s a huge 6 story semi-circular behemoth of a building pushed practically right out onto the shore. Be aware that one end of the semi circle is parallel to the shore so the complex actually veers away from the water. There are 26 units per floor where the lower number units are facing the ocean and higher numbers units are more sideways to the blue and closer to Kihei Road. There is a disappearing beach below the seawall out front that gets swallowed up in the late morning/early afternoon but is more of a bait collecting area for locals than a swimming spot anyway. Not much in the way of grounds, mostly just parking lot.

The Luana Kai has very nice grounds but is just not in the same league for ocean views unless you are in building A or D. Also, the Luana Kai has no elevators, so if you are on the third floor, it can be a bit of a drag. Especially during check in and check out with luggage. The Luana Kai generally is the most aggressively discounted resort on the north Kihei oceanfront, so you will most likely find better deals there.

Thanks guys. I just wanted to make sure. We have a ground floor, oceanfront unit. I was just a little worried, like I said, because I have not heard any mention of it along the board!
