We have a week on BI. I%26#39;ve booked 3 nights at the Hale Haualalai B%26amp;B in Holualoa, plan to book a b%26amp;B around Volcano NP, what other area of BI is best for 2 or 3 more nights? We really want sight-seeing, don%26#39;t need to lie on a beach, want to see contrasts to Maui and Kuai, the other islands we%26#39;ll see. What part of the island would give us another beautiful experience? And, if you have a b%26amp;B to recommend, we%26#39;d love that, rather than a big resort, but we%26#39;ll stay at one if that%26#39;s what we should do to experience it all.
2 nights at VNP, 3 nights at Hale Hualalai B%26amp;B, where else?
Hi, Indymama. We%26#39;ve also booked 3 nights at the Hale Haulalai B%26amp;B and then 2 nights at the Country Goose B%26amp;B (near the volcano), and then we%26#39;re going to spend 5 nights at the Fairmont Orchid. We are planning to do lots of exploring/adventure the first half of our trip, and then we think we%26#39;ll be ready for some pampering for the last half of our trip.
We%26#39;ve been to Maui, Kauai and Oahu, and we%26#39;re SO EXCITED about the Big Island. We%26#39;ll be there in late October, celebrating our 25th anniversary.
Have fun planning!
2 nights at VNP, 3 nights at Hale Hualalai B%26amp;B, where else?
nowhere else.... stay put otherwise you will spend 20% of your visit moving place to place................ more is not better when it comes to time.......... Pick your B%26amp;B.s very carefully..... as they are mostly un-licenced and have no rules or standards to adhere to, un like hotels. Some are great some are hell-holes. Most charge the equal if not more than hotels here..
That said, I am bias toward comfort and service and to me sitting in some strangers house, having to make idle chit chat, is a real intrusion on my vacation, not to mention privacy.
Both of you won%26#39;t regret Hale Haulalai. Lon is a great host and the private rooms (with private entry) are very nice. The views are also incredible. If I could have, I%26#39;d have spent my whole trip there.
This was our favorite place to stay, of three places, during our trip this summer.
Dan%26#39;s point about not travelling too much is one you should consider. I remember one trip I took, we spent 2-3 days at most stops but it still felt like we were in the car a lot.
That said, there is something for finding a place midway between Holualoa and Volcano. It would allow you to see some parts of the island in between more easily such as Hawi and the Hamakua Coast.
I%26#39;m a big fan of Waianuhea. It%26#39;s a bed and breakfast pretty much midway. I live nearby but booked a night there a while back for a special occassion and it was one of the best accomodations I%26#39;ve ever had the pleasure of staying at.
Dan%26#39;s right you need to look into bed and breakfasts because their quality varies widely. But many do offer quality and service above and beyond a hotel. B%26amp;Bs are not for everyone as Dan points out. True you%26#39;re not anonymous like at a big place but I like that. You get personal service and you get a much better feel for the people and the place than some megaresort. To me, most hotels feel like you could be anywhere. But a B%26amp;B allows you a much more personal glimpse of the places you travel.
Depends where you are flying in/out of. If you are flying in and out of Kona, then remember you will be doing a lot of driving.
I live in Holualoa and have a weekend home in Volcano, so I think you made 2 great choices.
If you have 7 nights and you fly in and out of Kona, I would suggest 3 nights in Holualoa (enough time to head both north and south for sight-seeing). Then head to Volcano via Waimea and the Hamakua coast. If you want, one night in a Hamakua coast B %26amp; B would be enough. Or, the Shipman House in Hilo is also a nice historical inn. I%26#39;d spend 3 nights in Volcano since you can take day trips to Hilo and the Puna areas from there. I%26#39;d take the Southern route back to Kona for more sight seeing. If your flight leaves early in the day, you might consider heading back the day before your departure and spending your last night on the west side to prevent a long and early drive back to Kona.
Volcano Teapot Cottage, located 2 miles from entrance to VNP, is amazing. I think it is rated the #1 B%26amp;B in the area. Check it out.
Also, next to VNP entrance is Volcano Rainforest Retreat. Check their website...
